He is a specialist in Cardiology (Graduate Assistant - Consultant level - in the Military Hospital) and Internal Medicine. He accumulates the position of Assistant Professor, Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon - Regent of Epidemiology and Clinical Epidemiology. He is a physician specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology since February 1997 and since 2003. He holds a PhD in Medicine taken at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, New University of Lisbon, in January 2007, specializing in Surgery / Orthopedics. He has functions of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, New University of Lisbon since April 2007. He is also a professor in the Faculty of Economics and Management, Portuguese Catholic University since 2005, in the course of "Graduate in Management of Health Units" and the Advanced Management Program in Health. He was president of the Knee section of SPOT - Society Portuguese Orthopedics and Traumatology in the biennium 2008-2009 and 2010-2011, and was a board member of the SPOT - Portuguese Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 2008. In clinical terms he is Director of the Orthopedic Unit of the British Hospital - Lisbon XXI since September 2005. He is a member of the Clinical Management of Portugal Telecom - Health Care Association since December 2009, and Chairman of the General APEGSAÚDE - Portuguese Association of Health Engineering and Management since 2007. He was Director of the Emergency Service Center in West Lisbon Hospital 2006-2009.

He teaches at the Faculty of Medicine - University of Coimbra. He is a member of the European Academy of Rehabilitation. Francisco Saavedra, is involved in research projects focused on topics related to physical activity as a factor in health and wellness. His area of scientific interest focuses primarily by the study of energy expenditure in physical and sports activities and influence of factors, morphological, genetic and lifestyle throughout the life cycle

Jorge Mota, PhD

Dr. Mota earned his PhD in Sports Sciences at the Faculty of Sports Science at the University of
Porto in Portugal. He joined the faculty of the University of Porto as a Professor of Sports
Recreation and Leisure, serving as the Dean of Faculty during a two year appointment from
1996-1998. Currently Dr. Mota is Director of Research Centre in Physical Activity, Health and
Leisure and Faculty’s President of General Assembly. A visiting Professor at several Brazilian
institutions, Dr. Mota is adviser for the National Program for the Promotion of Physical Activity
(MEXA-SE) and is involved in physical activity promotion networks including HEPA Europe and
IPEN. His primary area of work is in issues relating to physical activity, its health related effects,
and specifically its relationship with non- communicable diseases. Dr. Mota is also involved in
the development and implementation of programmes related to physical activity and health
promotion, and he has authored numerous peer reviewed publications.

Born in June 25, 1968 (Coimbra). After finishing the secondary school at Escola Secundária Infanta D.
Maria (1986), moved to Lisbon where completed a 5-year diplom in Sport Science and Physical
Education by the Technical University of Lisbon (1986-1991). Obtained the Master degree in Sport
Science by the University of Oporto (1993-1996). Earned a grant from the Portuguese Foundation for
Science & Technology and studied in Michigan State University as part of the PhD program in Sport
Science - obtained at the University of Coimbra (1998-2002). Since 1994, act as teaching staff member in
the Faculty of Sport Science and Physical Education at the University of Coimbra.

Dr. Palmeira is an Associate Professor at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, in Lisbon, Portugal. He has a multidisciplinary academic background, with Physical Education and Sport (BSc), Sport Psychology (MSc), and Exercise and Health (PhD) degrees, all from the Faculty of Human Movement, Technical University of Lisbon. At the Universidade Lusófona he is Coordinator of the Center for Studies in Exercise and Health since 2005 and the Director of the Masters Program in Exercise and Well-Being.
Behavior change in obesity treatment is his major focus of research. He began looking at the predictive power of several behavior change theories , and now he is narrowing his focus to the role of treatment changes in subjective well-being and body image variables as potential predictors of long-term weight loss. He presents his work regularly at ISBNPA, NAASO/The Obesity Society and in Sport and Exercise Psychology conferences. He has won a national prize as a young investigator in sport sciences and the work developed with his master thesis toped 2nd place at the European Young Investigator Award from the European Federation of Sport and Exercise Psychology.
Presently his focus is on the exercise role on adolescent’s obesity. He works in the TOP project (Treatment of Pediatric Obesity - Tratamento da Obesidade Pediátrica) with the Obese Adolescent Consult at the Hospital de Santa Maria, which received a funding from the Portuguese Science Foundation for 2010-2013.
He is the Vice-President of the Portuguese Society of Sport Psychology (SPPD), participated actively at the formation of the European Network of Young Specialist in Sport Psychology (ENYSSP).
